An alarm auto dialer is a device that can be programmed to automatically call one or more telephone numbers in the event of an emergency. A message can be recorded on the auto dialer, which will be played back to the telephone numbers dialed. An alarm auto dialer normally forms a part of a complete security alarm system, and if one of the sensors within the security alarm system detects an intruder, the auto dialer automatically dials the preprogrammed numbers and plays back the recorded message. Many complete security alarm systems sold may not included an alarm auto dialer as part of the package, but an auto dialer unit may be purchased for that security alarm system as an additional separate product.

You can also buy a standalone motion sensor alarm which has a built in alarm auto dialer. These devices are handy if you are looking to secure just one or two rooms, and this is normally a much more cost-effective solution than buying a complete security alarm system with an alarm auto dialer. These standalone motion sensor devices normally have a PIR (infrared) sensor to detect motion within a room – if motion is detected, an audible alarm is sounded, and the alarm auto dialer is activated.
The Streetwise MA80 Motion Activated Alarm with Auto Dialer has an infrared motion sensor that detects any human motion up to 20 feet away. The device has a loud 125 decibel alarm, and an alarm auto dialer that can automatically dial up to 3 stored telephone numbers when the alarm is triggered, and plays back a recorded message. You can turn off the alarm siren on the device, so that when motion is detected the device will silently call the programmed numbers. The unit is easily installed by plugging it into an existing phone line, and is powered by 4 AAA batteries.
You can program an alarm auto dialer to call you on your cell phone when an intruder is detected, or to automatically call family, neighbors or friends. You could also program the alarm auto dialer to call an emergency service, such as the police. If you subscribe to an alarm monitoring service (such as ADT or Brinks), you can program the auto dialer to call this alarm monitoring service. An alarm monitoring service will have people monitoring incoming calls 24/7, and will call the relevant emergency services when your auto dialer calls them.
